guard.me Global360 draws upon 25 years of experience working with outbound travellers, and supports outbound programs by providing comprehensive coverage for various short-term or longer-term itineraries. These can be close to home or further afield in traditional and non-traditional destinations.
Why is this insurance so important?
All international travel involves some degree of risk. Our goal is to help our partners manage these risks in a straightforward and affordable way. Of course, preparation is always important but so, too, is the way that we respond.
guard.me Global360 brings together the essential elements of a risk-management plan for international travel and provides our partners with coverage, service, support, and advice that will protect and secure the welfare of the traveller as an individual or as part of a group.
Who is eligible?
guard.me Global360 is designed exclusively for our education partners to help them achieve their educational goals and business objectives.
Your institution is eligible if it facilitates international learning activities for your students or if faculty and staff conduct international research or business on behalf of the institution.
guard.me will also provide coverage to:
- Chaperones or group leaders accompanying students
- Spouses, parents and dependents (over the age of 15 days and under 19 years)
- People under 65 travelling outside of Canada, except to their home country (unless part of a formal learning activity)
- Travellers over 65 and under 70 upon payment of a scheduled surcharge
What’s included?
Your one-stop shop for emergency medical and travel health insurance contains guard.me Global Plan A or guard.me Global Plan B.
These comprehensive plans provide the same great coverage and benefits. In addition, Plan A also includes carefully defined benefits for trip cancellation, interruption, and delay.
Both plans offer coverage up to $2 million without deductibles or co-pays. In addition, coverage includes eligible charges for:
- Hospital stays up to policy maximum
- Physician and surgeon
- X-rays and laboratory tests
- New prescriptions; up to $50 to replace drugs lost, stolen or damaged; up to $75 for a local physician to replace a prescription
- Psychiatric hospitalization payable to a lifetime maximum of $50,000 for medical / psychiatric treatment received when in hospital
Coverage also includes:
- Baggage and personal effects up to $800 in the aggregate; $100 baggage delay; $300 maximum per item; $100 personal money
- Medical air evacuation or return home with 100% of the cost to a maximum of $2 million to transport you to the nearest hospital or a hospital in your home country via commercial airline or air ambulance
- Third-party liability up to a maximum of $1 million
- Identity theft protection up to $10,000, including legal costs and lost wages
- 24/7 travel assistance
A key feature of both plans is the 24/7 travel assistance support line that provides:
- Worldwide multilingual assistance for medical and dental referrals
- Advance payment to hospitals
- Help with prescriptions and monitoring treatments
- Transfer of insurance and medical information
- Replacement of lost / damaged medical devices and eyeglasses
- Emergency hotel accommodation
In the event of hospitalization, our travel assistance service can coordinate the dispatch of a physician or specialist as well as the transfer of essential vaccines or blood.
Another feature of this policy is the provision of automatic extensions should certain unforeseen conditions apply.
Crisis Response Membership Program
Our Crisis Response Membership Program—in partnership with FocusPoint International’s Crisis Assistance Plus program (CAP™)—is Canada’s most comprehensive travel assistance membership program.
Crisis Response Membership is designed to inform, advise, and assist travellers in addressing destination-based health, safety, and security-related travel risks. It provides travellers with peace of mind so they can travel confidently and make the most out of their journey, no matter where life takes them.
The program is unique in Canada for four main reasons:
- Fully funded and insured – no additional costs; maximum cost containment
- Low barrier to use – no hard loss required; emotional trauma and security concerns included
- Worldwide assistance services – includes handheld mobile app
- Unmatched flexibility to the home institution – scaled to requirements
Crisis Response Membership is different from other services in Canada. It is a fully indemnified travel assistance membership program that guarantees assistance to travellers for a wide range of security-related travel risks that impact (or have the potential to impact) customers during travel.
Additional coverage when it’s needed
We know that each trip is different and that the needs of travellers can change depending on the purpose of travel, destinations, and type of business conducted or objectives and activities of an academic or experiential learning program.
Our experience has taught us that additional coverage may be required, including:
- Travel advisory waiver rider – automatically applied when the itinerary includes destinations or regions within destinations rated by Global Affairs Canada as Risk Level 3 (“avoid non-essential travel”)
- Home country waiver rider – when the traveller participates in a partner-approved course / program or a learning activity documented on the institution’s co-curricular record
- Adventure activities rider – for “adventurous” activities such as scuba diving, caving, hot-air balloon trips, operating all-terrain vehicles, bungee jumping, dirt biking (off-road), hang gliding, heliskiing, mountain climbing, parachuting, paragliding, rock climbing, and skydiving
- Alcohol and drug waiver rider – for a claim that could be excluded due to the influence of alcohol and other drugs
guard.me’s keep.meSAFE Mental Wellness Student Support Program is available for outbound travellers and group leaders. Our partners that subscribe to this program can extend the service to their international learners, group leaders, and business travellers at no additional cost.

How much does guard.me Global360 cost?
guard.me Global360 is a flexible approach to managing risk and a cost-effective way to protect the health and welfare of your students, staff, and faculty when they travel abroad. We will provide the best solutions possible and match them to your unique needs.
guard.me Global Plan A is a comprehensive emergency health and travel policy that also provides additional insurance for trip cancellation, interruption, and delay. Pricing varies depending on destination and duration.
guard.me Global Plan B is a comprehensive emergency health and travel policy that starts at $1.65 per day for trips worldwide and $2 per day for coverage in the USA.
Specialized and affordable riders are available for higher-risk destinations, adventurous activities, and to cover illness and accidents resulting from alcohol and other drugs (refer to Additional coverage when it’s needed above). In addition, students travelling to their home country to participate in institutionally sanctioned programs are also eligible for insurance coverage.
