As a current International Student studying at Cape Breton University, you will be enrolled in guard.me@CBU’s Health Programs as of January 1, 2021. These plans are mandatory for Students who are studying in Canada and a condition of studying at CBU.
I am studying outside of Canada
If you are not in Canada for the winter term, January 1- April 30 2021, the guard.me@CBU Health Program is not available to you and you MUST OPT OUT by completing the Out of Canada Waiver in order to receive a credit to your Student Account. The deadline to complete this opt out waiver is January 22, 2021. As an International Student studying at CBU, you are required to retain the keep.me SAFE program. The premium for this program is nonrefundable.
*Should you decide to travel to Canada, it is your responsibility to contact InternationalOffice@CBU.ca prior to your arrival in Canada.
I have valid MSI Coverage
If you have valid coverage through the Nova Scotia Medical Service Insurance (MSI) Program you may opt out of the guard.me@CBU Health Program by demonstrating valid proof of MSI. This includes uploading a copy of your Nova Scotia MSI card that demonstrates your MSI coverage dates. In order for the opt out to be accepted, your MSI coverage must include the January 1, 2021 to April 30, 2021 coverage period or your opt out will be declined. The deadline to complete this opt out by demonstrating valid proof of MSI Coverage is January 22, 2021.
As an International Student studying in Canada at CBU, you are required to retain the guard.me Annual Excursion Policy as well as the keep.me SAFE program. The premiums for these benefits and program are nonrefundable.
ATTENTION: Students will need to use their Compass Student ID Number when opting out. When you login to your Compass Student Account, this number can be found by your name. If your ID Number starts with a zero, you will need to remove the zero from the start of your ID Number.

Seeing a doctor on Maple is safe and reliable, and can help prevent the need to go to a walk-in clinic or Emergency Room.
When outside of Canada the mobileDOCTOR service connecting you to a Canadian doctor in real time remains available 24/7 for advice purposes only.
To add insured family members, click on “Patient Profiles” from the dashboard. In “Account Settings” under the “Coverage” tab, add the relevant guard.me policy numbers.
Click the “See The Doctor” button and a Maple doctor will respond to you in minutes. You can have your consultation by text, video, or audio chat.
Doctors can diagnose and provide prescriptions as necessary during your consultation. Prescriptions can only be provided if you are in Canada. Please note only eligible prescriptions are covered.
