Q. Who can apply for guard.me insurance?


guard.me is designed specifically to meet the needs of the international education marketplace. Eligible applicants include:

  • International Students
  • Study Abroad
  • Teachers
  • School Faculty and Staff
  • Exchange Programs and Camps
  • Co-ops, Internships and Work Projects, Work and Study
  • Trainees
  • Dependants and Immediate Family Members when the student is also insured

Q. How do I know when I am covered?


Once you apply and pay online, you have coverage. You will receive confirmation from us that your application has been processed and approved when we email you your paid invoice and ID Card.

Q. Can I travel to another country?


Yes, you can travel to another country, but you are not covered in your Home Country. See your policy for details.


Q. Can I apply for a family member?


Yes, you can purchase coverage for your family members as well when their coverage period is the same as yours. Apply using our online application form.

Opt Outs

Q. Can I cancel my insurance? How do I apply for a refund?


You can submit proof of coverage on this website by the opt out deadline in order to opt out of this insurance plan. Please contact us for more details

Q. I already have my own insurance plan. Can I Opt Out?


If this site has a link to “Opt Out” you can fill out the form and attached the required documents. Please note that you can only opt out if your plan has been made eligible by guard.me. The Opt Out form will show you the eligible plans and request the required documents.

Q. How do I obtain my BC Medical Services Plan Letter for the Opt Out process?


You can contact BC MSP by phone in order to obtain a letter confirming your enrollment and effective dates of BC MSP coverage. Please contact BC MSP directly for more information.


Q. Does it take long to receive an ID Card?


If you applied online, your ID Card will automatically be sent to your email address within a few minutes of the application completion. If you applied through your school, you will need to check with your school to receive your ID Card, or check your school's email account.

Q. I lost my ID Card, can I get a new one?


In order to retrieve your lost ID card, simply log in to My Account.
If you have not yet created your account, you can create an account using your contact information and policy number at https://www.guard.me/register.php.

Q. How can I pay for Insurance?


On the payment page, by selecting Credit Card, you can pay with VISA or Mastercard. By selecting PayPal, you can also select to pay with VISA debit cards or AMEX. To pay by PayPal, you do not need to have or create a PayPal account, you can always pay as a guest. If you have a PayPal account, you can also login and pay using this method.

Q. My Credit Card was declined. What should I do?


The reason your card was declined is indicated in red on the decline message you receive when paying for your insurance. Please check your payment card status and number again and re-try. If the error has nothing to do with the credit card itself, please click here to report this incident to us.
