Opt Out

As a current International Student studying at UNB, you will be enrolled in guard.me@UNB’s Health Programs as of September 1, 2020. These plans are mandatory for Students who are studying in Canada and a condition of studying at UNB.

  • I am studying outside of Canada for the fall 2020 term

If you are not in Canada, the guard.me@UNB Health Program is not available to you and you MUST OPT OUT by completing the Out of Canada Waiver in order to receive a credit to your Student Account. The deadline to complete this opt out waiver is September 25th, 2020.

  • I have valid Medicare Coverage

If you already have valid coverage through the New Brunswick Medicare Plan you may opt out of the guard.me @UNB Health Program by demonstrating valid proof of Medicare. This includes uploading a copy of your New Brunswick Medicare card or your New Brunswick Medicare Letter that demonstrates your Medicare coverage dates. In order for the opt out to be accepted, your Medicare coverage must include the September 1, 2020 to August 31st 2021 coverage period or your opt out will be declined. The deadline to complete this opt out by demonstrating valid proof of Medicare Coverage is September 25th, 2020. If your Medicare coverage dates do not include the September 1, 2020 to August 31st 2021 coverage period, please contact the International Health Insurance Administrator at international_insurance@unb.ca to obtain an insurance opt out until your Medicare expiry date.

As an International Student studying in Canada at UNB, you are required to retain the guard.me Annual Excursion Policy. The premiums for these benefits are nonrefundable.

*If you have already provided proof of Medicare to UNB prior to September 1st 2020, you are not required to opt out on this site.
*Please note that charges for your guard.me plan will not be removed from your account until the end of September provided you have successfully completed the opt out process on this site.
