Opt Out

As a current International Student studying at University of New Brunswick, you will be enrolled in the guard.me Canada plan as of May 1, 2024. The guard.me health insurance plan is mandatory for registered international students studying at the University of New Brunswick.

I have valid Medicare and want to opt out of the guard.me Canada Plan

You are eligible to opt out from the guard.me Canada insurance plan if you have valid Medicare coverage (must be valid from May 1 – August 31, 2024).

To opt out, you must attest to holding valid Medicare and you must provide the start and end date of your Medicare coverage. Medicare must be valid on or before May 1, 2024, valid to August 31, 2024, and subject to renewal. This optout is valid for the summer term only. (May 1-Aug 31) You will be required to opt out again in the fall term if you are still a registered UNB student.

The deadline to complete this opt out is May 17, 2024.

*Please note that provided you have successfully completed the opt out process on this site,charges for your guard.me Canada Plan will not be removed from your account until May 31^st.

How It Works

2. Apply account coverage for family members

To add insured family members, click on “Patient Profiles” from the dashboard. In “Account Settings” under the “Coverage” tab, add the relevant guard.me policy numbers.

3. Chat With A Doctor

Click the “See The Doctor” button and a Maple doctor will respond to you in minutes. You can have your consultation by text, video, or audio chat.

4. Get a diagnosis, prescription, or lab requisition

Doctors can diagnose injuries and illnesses, write prescriptions, and provide lab requisitions, all within your consultation. Please note that only eligible prescriptions and lab requisitions are covered by guard.me and can only be provided if you are in Canada.
