AN INDUSTRY FIRST

Toronto, Canada – Effective immediately, guard.me International Insurance, one of the world’s largest insurance providers in the international education market, in partnership with Morneau Shepell (TSX: MSI), Canada’s leading provider of employee and family assistance programs, has launched the industry’s first 24/7 International Student Support Program.

Through Morneau Shepell’s worldwide network, guard.me now provides access to immediate and confidential culturally relevant counselling 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.   Available in a language of choice, the customized International Student Support Program (ISSP)
is designed to help students cope with feelings of loneliness, stress and anxiety associated with adjusting to a new culture while studying abroad.

The program is the first of its kind and is offered on a number of platforms, including online chat, video and email.

“I’m very excited to expand on the services we offer our international students,” said Keith Segal, President and CEO of guard.me International Insurance.  “Through the ISSP plan students will be able to receive support and counselling services 24/7, which is especially important when being away from home and studying abroad.”

“We are very happy to be partnering with guard.me.  Today, we find that more and more young people are accessing counselling and advisory services through various digital channels,” said Richard Albert, VP International of Employee Support Solutions at Morneau Shepell.  “This is why we offer support solutions around the clock through our video counselling, app or by telephone.”  Morneau Shepell is known for its award-winning technology, extensive global counselling network and high-touch, people centered approach.

The ISSP is just one of the many unique services that guard.me offers its clients as part of its keep.me SAFE campaign to put the needs of international students first. The short-term counselling model is intended to enhance local community services as well as educational resources to proactively prevent and resolve student mental health issues.  Completely confidential and voluntary, the service is available instantly and free of charge to students from institutions that register for the program.
